Summer Mornings: The Cockerel's Song
I do morning chores to the rooster's song. My nine-pound bird belts a tune as bold as his iridescent auburn and black feathers.
But on this summer morning, the response to his crows make me smile. It's a two-syllable tune that ends with a croak.
My teenage cockerels are attempting to crow.
For the next month, I will hear their songs stretch from two to three syllables, until one day, they find their voice and I hear a chorus of rooster crows.
